FUYU Single Grain Barley Shochu is a mugi shochu, Japan's traditional distilled spirit made here entirely from barley. Fermented with koji and distilled in Japan, it is bottled at 43% ABV, a touch above the usual 25% of domestic shochu, which gives it the weight to work as a whisky alternative or a cocktail base.Barley shochu is clean and nutty: toasted barley and subtle florals on the nose, a silky, delicate palate with a hint of sweetness and a gentle grain character, and a smooth, dry finish. Drink it the Japanese way, on the rocks, with cold water (mizuwari), with hot water (oyuwari), or in a highball with soda and a squeeze of citrus. This 750ml bottle is an easy introduction to Japan's national spirit at a friendly price.
